Question from a reader --
Hi Sebastian,
Hope your well and give get win is going well.
I have a question on the overall strategy and the underlying tactics for my consulting business.
In a nutshell I [create very unique complete experiences that no-one else is offering right now].
Here is the opportunity there is no clear figurehead, no books on the subject, just experts in the sub fields who cover it. What would be the best way to position myself as the leader?
I was thinking via a blog, doing a book? Maybe even trying to start a conference.
I currently have 3 clients although they are local businesses, and I'm working for XXX, but I will be leaving at Xmas as freelance is much more profitable.
Thanks
J
Hey J,
I think you already know the answer. Yes, sure, a book would be good. Blogging could work. Getting written up in the media. Writing a whitepaper or shorter guide.
But you already know that stuff, I think. What's more important is I'd recommend this -- limit yourself to one of these creative endeavors at a time, and only work on that one until it's executed and running smoothly.
You've got a ton of good ideas. Don't work on seven at the same time and get them all up to 60% complete. Work on one at a time until it's done. I'd also recommend you start with some smaller commitment/faster-time projects than writing a book; EX, a guide or whitepaper, website, or series of articles.
Hope that helps. All the best,
Sebastian
