Hmm. I just had a realization that I thrive on action -- I'm at my best when things are happening. Lots of things, and moving fast. I get particularly thrown off when I'm planning for action, and it gets knocked into inaction -- a meeting gets canceled, a no-show to a sales call or appointment, or something like that.
I just recognized this. My best work usually comes when I'm doing a lot of things. Focused things are best, of course. But inaction is the worst; times of sitting around, especially time spent idly waiting, seem to kill off good work.
Perhaps the answer is to be able to generate positive action on demand. I've got a list of about 20 things I want to accomplish in the next month or two in one of my notebooks, and just flipping it open and jumping in helps a lot.
Still, a lot of those aren't the kind of really intensely important sorts of action that elevates everything else in life. So maybe I need to write down more intensive things to self-generation action on. Your thoughts in the comments?
