I think people will look back on some of the best commercials made for the TV era as art.
Commercials in their current form - high production quality, roughly 30 seconds, designed to get the attention of someone in the middle of watching something else - I think it's designed for the TV medium, and I don't think we'll see the same post-TV.
It's rare that a company makes good commercials, but Nike has consistently made interesting and excellent commercials. They turn basic commodities - shirts, shoes - into symbols of triumph, overcoming, defiance, victory, defeat. It's cool to watch from a business perspective as well as an artistic perspective. And the best ones are pretty inspiring too.
