I've got a point that I think will improve your writing.
When editing your work, look at every sentence or paragraph and ask, "Should this be here?"
That's an interesting question. How do you answer it?
Well, first, I think you need to ask another question.
"What am I trying to do here?"
You need to think about what your objective or objectives with your writing are. Is it to inform, to entertain, to demonstrate your expertise, to inspire, all of the above, none of the above?
So you decide. Maybe you explicitly list what you're trying to do.
Then you ask, "Should this be here?" which really means, "Does this help me do what I'm trying to do?"
I've been doing this. It helps a lot. Highly recommended.
