A friend just mentioned via email that he was on an excellent track, but felt he'd lost some of creativity and exploration. I wrote back,
"Do you ever try sitting in a cafe with no distractions, no tech, no people around with a notebook? I did lots of that. I'd write, "What do I want?" at the top of a page, and then write everything. Could be as big as changing the world or as small as eating a sandwich. I'd just write. If you do that exercise repeatedly in good ambiance places, you'll see trends (and good ideas) emerge. Can't emphasize how much the lack of stimulation helps."
I recommend that exercise for everyone if you're at a crossroads or if you feel your life is getting too rote or dull. The first time, it might or might not produce anything. Give yourself 2+ hours regularly to do it and you'll almost assuredly strike gold.
